The ECSU is part of the British Columbia Federation of Students. The British Columbia Federation of Students is a provincial alliance of more than 170,000 students at 15 universities, colleges, and institutes in every part of BC. Together we work to provide students with an effective and unified voice to influence access to education.
Fairness for International Students
Due to government underfunding, institutions have come to depend on the revenue they receive from increasing fees for international students.
Fund it, Fix it
BC’s future depends on an educated, skilled workforce. But underfunding in the last two decades has led to skyrocketing fees and putting post-secondary education out of reach for too many young people.
Knock Out Interest
Because of ever-increasing tuition fees, students are graduating with debt loads that are higher than ever. Average student debt for an undergraduate degree in Canada is now over $30,000.
Reconciliation Through Education
Many of the disadvantages facing Indigenous peoples such as unemployment and lower incomes can be traced back to the gap in educational attainment between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. In order for true reconciliation to be achieved, the government needs to take steps to reducing the attainment gap.
Let’s Get Consensual
The Federation has joined the University of Victoria, the University of Victoria Students’ Society, and the Anti-Violence Project to fight against the prevalence of rape culture and sexualized violence through their Let’s Get Consensual campaign.
