Eliana Carlos
Hello! I’m Eliana and I am currently a 2nd year student under Industrial Design. Ever since I started studying at Emily Carr, I have seen how vibrant the community is, its joys and its struggles. Thus, I would love to give back to the university by helping in the exciting plans the Student Union has in store for you. With my experience as a student representative for my high school organizations and various community-building events, I believe I am fit to be one of your Members at Large.
If given this opportunity, I would love to focus on improving food security for students and becoming a voice for international students–given the forecasted rise in tuition fees. I believe these aspects are important for Emily Carr, these play pivotal roles in student life and safety.
If you’d like to further discuss on plans or issues you’d want to bring up to the Students’ Union, feel free to reach out in person or through ecarlos@ecuad.ca. You can usually find me tinkering away in the Industrial Design studio or hanging out in the library.
With love and light,
Eliana

Jenny Chao
'Hi, my name is Jenny Chao, sometimes known as Jen, and going into the third-year photography program in September. I’m hyped to be running for the members-at-large position where I can continue to contribute to a friendly and collaborative environment here at Emily Carr! You may have seen me around campus (maybe with too many things in my hands), whether it’s chatting about upcoming projects while procrastinating said projects, catching up with people, or making new connections through appreciation of art. It’s important to me that people feel like they’re heard, and it’s just as important that they are heard. My volunteer experience consists of photography at the Vancouver Fringe film festival and spending time with seniors and adults with disabilities at a care centre. I’m all about human connections and experiences. That’s why if I’m nominated into the members-at-large position, I’m going to be advocating for accessibility, equity, as well as food security through food assistance on and off campus, and the lowering of domestic and international tuition increases.'
Thank you,
Jenny

Jiwoo Kim
Hello everyone! I'm Jiwoo Kim, a student with a deep passion for design, drawing, and — most importantly — sleeping! During my Foundation and Second Year, I’ve had the chance to meet so many talented and hardworking students. One thing I’ve noticed, though, is that while we’re all deeply passionate about our work, we often forget to take care of ourselves. It’s easy to overlook, but rest is just as important as hard work. Whether it’s staying up all night for deadlines, running on caffeine, or trying to catch a few minutes of rest between classes, I found that many students struggle to find the time and space to truly recharge.
This brings me to a topic close to my heart: nap. If you’ve ever wandered into the Student Wellness Room, you might have seen exhausted students sneaking in a quick nap between classes. (Confession: I am one of them.) We work hard; we push ourselves; and sometimes, we just need a moment to recharge. Many of my friends have told me they wish there were more quiet, comfortable spaces on campus.
I've noticed that the Student Wellness Room has only two mats for resting, which means not everyone can use them when they need to. If I become a member of the Students’ Union, I want to advocate for more peaceful and spacious rest areas where students can truly relax and reset. This could be achieved by adding more resting mats, providing a radio that plays soothing sleep music, and rearranging the desks and sofas to maximize space efficiency. Additionally, since shared mats are used by multiple people, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene is crucial. I would focus on implementing a regular cleaning schedule for these mats and providing individual covers or eco-disposable hygiene sheets to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe while resting.
Let’s make our university experience not just productive, but also comfortable—and well-rested :D

Imran Nasibov
Hey everyone! I’m Imran Nasibov, and I’m a first-year international film student in EC and running to be a board member of the Emily Carr Student Union. Why? Because I genuinely believe student life should be more than just deadlines and all-nighters with caffeine (though, let’s be real, those aren’t going anywhere).
Over the years, I’ve organized large-scale events that brought people together, received great feedback, and learned how to make things run smoothly—even when chaos tried its best to take over. Through these experiences, I’ve honed my management, communication, and problem-solving skills, adapting quickly to challenges, and finding creative solutions.
I also got to volunteer at the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix 2023, where I was working in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment. (In short, if I can manage juggling stuff at a gigantic international event, I think I should be able to juggle some student union events and responsibilities.) Oh, and also, I've got a letter of recommendation from my event organizing days from my advisor, because credibility matters (or so I’ve heard). I’ll leave a link below to my certificate and a rec letter— just in case you believe me's lying.
If elected, I promise to listen carefully to your suggestions and concerns—because a student union is there for everyone, not a privileged minority. I want to make student life as joyful and stress-free as possible, whether this means improving facilities, putting on great events, or listening to your anxieties and doing something about them.
I take this responsibility seriously (but not too seriously—I’m still here to make things fun). So, if you want someone who will work hard, think fast, and actually get things done, vote for me!
Let’s make Emily Carr an even better place—together.

Linda Riestra
Hello, I'm Linda. I'm currently a second year Industrial Design Student and I'm re-running for Member at Large! :D
I'm passionate about being involved in events for the student body, most notably volunteering for various events, such as Clubs Day, the Spooky Cabaret II, representing ECSU during orientation and hosting Life Drawing. I've also worked behind-the-scenes for various promotional content for the ECSU.
During this term, I’ve attended meetings with ECU’s president, VP finance, and with board members to organize and execute initiatives for students. Some work includes collecting data on food insecurity, presenting food-related initiatives and issues to the Board of Governors, creating ECSU orientation packages for incoming students, and presenting our services to incoming international students. Recently, I attended the BC federation of student’s annual general meeting with other locals to collaborate and learn about making post-secondary more inclusive, accessible, and affordable.
It has been a pleasure serving the ECU community and I can't wait to continue my involvement. If re-elected, I aim to continue fostering student engagement and push for initiatives that better student lives.
Feel free to connect with me on Instagram @Linda_Riestra or approach me for a chat anywhere, any time!

Mia Roxas
Hello! My name is Mia Roxas, I use she/her pronouns, and I’m a second-year Communication Design student.
You may have seen me around campus filming as ECU’s student social media ambassador (where I enjoy highlighting the student experience here on campus), or maybe at one of the many Student Union events I’ve helped out with as a Member at Large. From Speed Friending to Club Day (where I was probably handing out food), to the Clothing Swap and the amazing Halloween Cabaret held last October. I’ve always loved being part of student life, helping to create spaces where people can connect, have fun, and feel at home at ECU. As a student who is far from home, I understand how important it is to feel a sense of belonging.
I want to continue the work I’ve been doing—building a strong, welcoming, and supportive student community. Whether it’s through events, student-led initiatives, or simply making sure everyone feels like they belong, my main focus is creating an environment where we can all thrive together. Thank you!

Jaiden Su
My name is Jaiden Su, I’m a third year 2D Animation student. I’ve volunteered at the ECSU life drawing and Kendo tournaments. Like many of you, my passions include Drawing, Animation and Photography. I'm making it my mission to elevate ECU into a place that can help students feel connected with each other. I am hoping to implement more community based events that help both new and current students feel at home, as family. The student body, each person being unique aspiring individuals, deserves to feel as though their presence is accounted for.
Some ways I plan to bring our community together is by encouraging people, no matter what program they may be in, to mingle together and create synergy between each student. This could be frequent socialization events such as coffee nights, community get togethers, and various other opportunities for people to meet new faces, or even familiar ones.
Another issue I’d like to tackle in our school is the lack of communication between faculty members and students. During my time in this school, I’ve noticed the difficulty students have, trying to connect with faculty members and have their needs met. I wish to create a space where everyone can be heard and seen by the people that run the school. I firmly believe that the Students' Union is a place where student voices should be hard and contribute to changes on campus. I plan to stand by this and make it a priority if I get elected.

Alessio Rios Diaz
Hi! My name is Alessio Rios Diaz, I’m a third year Illustration student from Mexico running for Visual Arts Faculty representative.
Throughout my undergraduate career, I have dedicated my time to building a stronger community amongst students. I am the co-creator and editor in chief for the school’s first ever published Yearbook. I have also been a contributor in the student/faculty run Food Club, which is an initiative towards creating more accessible food options for students. We oversee the maintenance of the pantry and potluck events that bring artists together to create a stronger community.
My goal with this position is to create a system between students that is independent and non-reliant on institutional bureaucracy. My experience participating in clubs and student lead projects, have shown me that persistent initiative amongst students is a necessity of significant and legitimate change.
As a representative of Visual Arts students, I would help foster a space that is conducive to creativity, passion, and curiosity. By facilitating collaboration and discussions, we can consolidate a network that we can rely on anywhere and anytime even after graduation. I will do this by offering clubs and groups more consistent resources to help them thrive and last longer than one semester, collaboration and integration of students all over the visual arts spectrum, and wider networking opportunities with different institutions in Vancouver.
I encourage people to reach out to me to talk further, hear about your opinion, or just chat!

Lyana Ayesha Azneil
Hello everyone! I am Lyana Azneil. As a 3rd year 2D Animation student, I’m excited to run for the position of student representative for the ECSU Faculty of Design and Dynamic Media. I believe I am a strong candidate because I am approachable and committed to bringing your voices to the forefront to ensure that the upcoming academic year is one to remember :D
Over my years at ECU, I’ve participated and volunteered at ECSU events such as the Spooky Cabaret and Clothing Swap. These experiences have helped me engage with the community and learn more about the issues that matter to students.
Through conversations with my fellow peers, I have noticed a common concern about the need for better career preparation resources. If elected, one of my key goals will be to organize talks and workshops with alumni and industry professionals. These events will provide valuable insights into the career opportunities available to ECU graduates, helping us all feel better prepared for life after university.
In addition, I want to advocate for more support around housing and tuition issues, which are major concerns for many students. I want to contribute to finding better solutions for these issues, create a platform to connect students' voices and ensure they are addressed by those who can make a difference.

Medhavi Mahesh
Hello everybody!
I’m Medhavi, Medz for short (as my fellow friends often call me!)—a second-year 3D Animation student with a passion for animation and storytelling! My charismatic and explorative nature drives me to constantly seek new opportunities, push creative boundaries, network and meet with artsy folks!
For over a year and a half, I’ve been deeply involved in the animation community, volunteering at major film festivals like VAFF and Chilemonos. These experiences have given me incredible industry exposure, allowing me to connect with professionals, gain real-world insights, and understand the evolving landscape of animation.
Beyond that, I co-lead the Women in Animation (WIA) club here at Emily Carr, where I actively work to create a supportive and empowering space for emerging artists across all years:)
As a dedicated member of the Students’ Union, I understand the importance of strong representation and collaboration. I believe in encouraging meaningful connections and making sure our voices as Dynamic Media students are heard. Whether it’s creating more networking opportunities, advocating for resources, bridging the gap between students and professionals, or simply bringing an extra spark of energy to our community—I’m here for it all!
If you’re looking for a Dynamic Media Representative who is not only passionate but also proactive in making things happen, I’d be honored to have your support.
Let's give you overworked media baddies a rest—vote for me! :P

Alessio Rios Diaz
Hi! My name is Uppu and I’m a second year 3D Animation student. You might have seen me
around the animation studio (sometimes I feel like I live there). I like meeting new people and
getting to know them. I'm someone my friends can always come to if they need help or
someone to talk to. I enjoy helping people with their problems in any way I can. I can be an advisor or a sounding board, depending on what they need.
It would be an honour to be the Faculty Representative for Design And Dynamic Media. For the past year I've been the Culture & Community Rep in the Students' Unions. I've worked closely with the Dean, to help students have a better university experience. This has helped me to learn a lot about the university’s decision making and the way to approach problems that impact the student body. I hope to get your vote to continue being a representative so I can use my skills to help both DDM and other students on campus.
Feel free to reach out if you’d like to know more about me, or make a friend. My Instagram is

Elisabeth Wong
Hi everyone! I’m Elisabeth, but you can call me Liz. I’m a 3rd-year 2D animation student, and I’m thrilled to be running for the position of Faculty of Design and Dynamic Media Representative. As an international student, like many of you, Emily Carr has become mysecond home. Now, I want to help make it an even better home, with a structure easily sturdier than our studio chairs.
If you vote for me, I promise to:
● Listen to your needs. I believe that listening is the most important role of any representative, and I will be going above and beyond to make your voice be heard.
● Organize career events (workshops, studio tours, guest lectures) to help each and every one of us land our dream jobs and make sure our curriculum positions us for these roles.
● Branch out, expand and develop our curriculums to ensure we are equipped in the best ways for the competitive art market.
I believe Emily Carr is more than just a school—it’s a place where we grow as artists, form lasting memories and create strong bonds which will continue to support us long after graduation. I care about enhancing your student experience, and I want to ensure our community only continues to thrive.
To connect with you directly, I’ll dedicate time every Wednesday from 3:30–4 PM in the animation lounge. Come say hi! I’d love to hear your ideas for improving our school or, just as importantly, debate which software crashes the most.
Vote for me and let’s work together to create a school that guides us to our biggest dreams.

Karol Hancco
Hello! My name is Karol Hancco. I am a first year international student majoring in 2D animation, passionate about building a strong supportive and inclusive community.
How is your first year going so far? Mine has been different every month.
As someone who has experienced the challenges of adapting to a new environment, I deeply understand the needs of internationals, new, and diverse students (trust me, I still get lost sometimes). Something that I’ve learned is that having a strong, welcoming community makes all the difference and I want to help make that journey easier for others. I believe that culture and community are at the heart of student life especially when you are integrating to a new large community.
Being a foundation student, I am genuinely excited for the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way. If you allow me to be your representative of the faculty of culture and community, I would like to contribute to the creation of spaces where everyone feels heard, valued, and connected. If elected, with empathy, dedication and a strong sense of responsibility, I will work towards making our university a place where all students can thrive, share their voices, and support each other.
What we found problematic? What are we expecting? and most importantly how we felt about it? I am truly curious about what we all think and have to say about our school.
I would like the chance to represent you and work to make many of your ideas a reality by improving our community!

Samuel Kim
Hello, my name is Samuel Kim. I am a first-year MDes student at ECU, and I feel honored to serve this diverse group of artists and designers who represent the vibrant creative community here in Vancouver. As a student who's actively seeking career opportunities, I am mindful of the many challenges involved in pursuing a creative career at this time. I advocate for student programs that facilitate a smooth transition into professional development and opportunities that foster meaningful relationships between ECU students and industry professionals in the Vancouver community. I believe everyone in the community brings their own unique voice to the table, and we become more resilient in the causes we stand for when acting in unison. It would be my mission to bridge the gap between our passion and the well-being of our future as members of the ECU alumni community. Sincere thanks for your consideration, and all the best on our creative journey going forward.
